Daily painting

A new painting has appeared. More colourful this time. The orange tones are by far not so bright in the painting as it is in this photo.

Dry pastel sketch

A very quick sketch made in a couple of minutes with dry pastel. I like the somewhat mysterious atmosphere in this scene that appeared on the paper. Let`s see if I make a painting out of it.

Daily painting

Another daily painting, no title, acrylics on canvas, 18x24 cm.

I start out only with a vague idea, and from there the painting develops and lives its own life as I get associations and ideas as the painting process develops. With this one I just startet out laying a layer of underpaint in light orange and yellow tones, making some landscape shapes. And from there this island and the oddly curved horizont appeared. At the end I try to balance the evolved composition with colours and shapes.

Daily painting in progress

A "daily painting" that isn´t quite finished yet, we will se how it proceeds. As my Christmas vacation is over and I am back at the office (working as a social scientist) I don´t have as much time to paint as the preceeding days. And thus, I won´t be blogging that frequently either. But the good news, for me, is that from 1st of February on I am starting in a new job, and the best part is that it is a 70% position, meaning I will have more time for my creative life! I can´t wait - it is going to be fantastic!

Inspiring words

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivates you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. there is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a bleesed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than others."

Ink portrait

I made this very simple and small portrait yesterday, ink on watercolour paper. It was made very quickly with just a few brushstrokes. Of course - I had failed with several attempts in advance - that´s just the name of the game. But then this person decided to appear on the paper. As usual, I had no photo references etc, so I never know who is "visiting".
